Sorry to just be hearing about Andy. My condolences. I was his platoon leader for part of his tour. We had a great group of guys and Andy was always attempting to keep me straight. Soldiering wasn't normal for any of us, but we tried to do it the right way and safely. "No Fear on Earth" was the 1st/27th motto. Couldn't prove that by me, but guys like Andy made the trip a whole lot easier. It was always good seeing him at our reunions, but he was best when he was helping someone through the red tape of VA benefits. He helped me with a friend of mine here who had been fighting for years - Andy had a few suggestions for him that cut right through to a solution.

I had talked to Andy last year about trying to locate some guys from 1st platoon “eddie and johnny” I thought from Guam and I thought they were cousins. Couldn’t find them. But he’d keep trying and I knew oneday he would. He was always looking for old wolfhounds and contacting them and bringing many into our current Bravo family. Me for one. And that time I was talking to him he was asking my assist in a friend of his who had lost her husband and was coming my way to Arlington for his internment. It was the heighth of covid. Couldn’t do much except info on the area. But Andy wanted to help a friend in time of need. That is a lot of what he did. Helped us in finding our way back and forward. Andy helped some of the guys in their dealings with the VA. Some of times it was a real rescue from pretty desperate situations. He was also one of the archivists of Bravo Co time of reunion attendees. Collecting copies of pictures letters and documents Andy came to these reunions like a library. The only pix I have of myself in Vietnam came from his efforts. Thanks again. Also was responsible for Gen Jackson’s pinning at the last reunion. Somehow knew about it and told me to get it done. In the picture I sent Andy is behind a barechested Don Hays. I’m sitting below left. Andy was always free with his stories and opinions. But he earned it. He talked the talk. But like this picture shows he walked the walk. With me. He was a brother in arms. I’ll miss him. Godspeed Andy.

I was his Company Commander for part of Andy's tour in Vietnam
He was a fine soldier and member of B Company 1/27 Infantry 25th Infantry Division.
I always enjoyed connecting with Andy at our reunions over the years.

Sorry for the loss of Andy. Ricky and I went to school together. I met your father, John, when I worked at Lincoln Hills School. I also know some of the sisters around my age. I also come from a large family and know how close they are. Fond memories of your times together are a treasured gift.

Andy was our neighbor & friend. He was always there to help with any car or mechanical problem at our house. He plowed our snow with an old bulldozer he’d cobbled together. The guys had to lay tractor tires across the road to get it from Beiler’s yard to ours without tearing up the road. Kind of funny but also an example of how we came to depend on Andy’s help. Our dog was just as likely to be in Andy’s garage as at home with us. So many memories!
My sympathies to all Andy’s family & friends
